Once I Dreamt I was a Bird
Flying freely through the sky
My wings outstretched
Gliding to and fro
The sun shining brightly, gave warmth to my back
Suddenly, strange hissing sounds
Whizzed past my ears
Hot burning searing pain
Gripped my entire being
As I fell from the sky
I felt my soul escaping
Life slowly seeping from my body
I closed my eyes
I felt myself soar
Flying freely through the sky
And I dreamt I was a bird

she has suffered infinite injustices
still she strives, her head held high
it’s a kind of pride
she has known domination, defeat
but regally rose,rebelling even mightier
for the day the fight would be over
she has cried an ocean of tears
for the senseless sacrifice of her sons
for the terrorizing torture of her daughters
and the reprehensible razing of her land
she shivered silently, signaling her soldiers
fierce freedom fighters
damning her dominators
finally freeing her people
resounding revelations of her independence

written in 2004 New York as a tribute
to the freedom fighters of Bangladesh
